Last week, while listening to the inspiring Shellye Archambeau on the podcast 'Wisdom From The Top' her words struck a chord:
“Take ownership of your career. So many people don’t. They get education and experience and then wait for people to tell them what they can do. We don’t treat other aspects of our life like that.”
Her closing statement was compelling:
“Own your career. You own it; nobody else does. Not your boss, not your company, not your mentor - you do. Decide what you want to do, what you want to learn, and what experiences you want, and then figure out how to make that happen. Then intentionally execute the plan. Anybody can achieve what they want to achieve if they are willing to take ownership of their career path.”
Archambeau’s words serve as a powerful reminder that we hold the reins of our professional lives. The decisions we make (or don't make), the paths we choose—they are ours alone.
