Need a Confidence Boost? Try the NLP Technique 'Anchoring'

Feeling confident can make all the difference, whether you're gearing up for a presentation, stepping into a crowded room, or tackling any other challenge that comes your way. I have a powerful technique from the world of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) that can help: anchoring.

Anchoring in NLP involves linking a specific emotion, like confidence, to a memory and then adding a physical stimulus to reinforce it. Here's how you can use anchoring to give your confidence a boost:

  1. Recall a Confident Moment: Take a moment to recall a time when you radiated confidence. Visualise the scene in your mind: What were you wearing? How were you standing or sitting? Who was with you? Relive the details of that moment until you can feel the confidence in yourself once again.

  2. Add the Stimulus: With the memory vivid in your mind, add a physical stimulus to anchor it. Using your index finger, press it gently into your thumb as if activating an imaginary button. This action will serve as your anchor, linking it to the confident feeling associated with the memory.

  3. Activate Your Anchor: The next time you find yourself in need of a confidence boost, simply press that imaginary button again. Allow the stimulus to trigger the memory and reignite the feeling of confidence within you.

As a Coach, I not only empower clients to tap into more confidence with techniques like anchoring, but I also support them in:

  • Breaking free from their comfort zone

  • Rising to meet challenges head-on

  • Pursuing bold aspirations

I have openings to take on more 1:1 clients at the end of March. If you are looking to unlock your full potential, get in touch via email aoife@threesixtycoaching.ie or DM.
